Reluctant online entrepreneur makes $1800 overnight.

True story.

Yup! You heard that correctly....and she made it while she slept.

I've often heard it said that the sign of real success is when your business makes money while you sleep. But I've never seen such a fun example of that.

Meet Mimi.

Mimi creates and sells wearable art. She's been in business for many years, showcasing and selling small production runs of mixed fabric, artisanal fashion at craft shows across the country.

Yes, Mimi had a nice website. It showcased her vision, her upcoming events, and recent collection items that could be custom ordered.

But it wasn't a shoppable online store.

(AKA nothing to buy)!

Each season Mimi debuted new designs, fabrications, and colors to her loyal following at pretty high-end regional events. This spring season, Mimi even planned to beat her previous sales. She prepped her new styles, created inventory, paid for show entry and booth space, got ready to pack up and get on the road.......

And then...

COVID 19.

Shelter in place.

No travel.

Canceled shows.

No refunds.

No revenue! And that's when I got the call.

What are my options?... What can I do? How does online selling work?

Can I even do it?

Pivoting during shifting circumstances can be tough. Particularly when it shoves us hard and painfully into a whole new set of unfamiliar circumstances.

Let's face it, change in general can be hard!

But a pandemic?! This changes everything.

So, what did I do with my reluctant online entrepreneur?

I took her through a set of proven steps to get her product launched online, on a brand new, commerce-enabled web page.

And even though we were both working from home, and separated by 8 states, we were able to get creative, take quick (and imperfect) product photos, create Facebook marketing, and an email list in Mailchimp.

Did it feel scary?

You bet.

Was my newbie e-commerce seller overwhelmed a couple of times....geesh, Yes!!!

Did I feel a bit bad, like I got her in over her head?..(.well even I have a movement or two)!

Did she launch before she felt like she was really ready?

Absolutely!

Then we launched the product page, posted on Facebook....and the sales rolled in. And my reluctant online seller woke up with a full inbox, a stack of orders, and $1750 making its way through her new Stripe account to the bank.

That was day one, and she completely sold out.

You go, girl!

They also say "success leaves clues" — so she working on restocking bestsellers and creating new versions!

Oh, and she is super excited about listing more styles online ASAP.

The reluctant online seller became a successful online entrepreneur overnight.
