Always launching products but not seeing sales? - The 3 Things to Help Fix That!
Have you ever found that you're always launching products, but you're not selling so many products?
You might be designing and creating great new things, putting them on your website, spending tons of time on your product copy, and really working hard in your business, but the sales just aren't following.
Step 1: Figure out why this might be happening.
Well, there could be a few reasons.
The first thing is that maybe your energy every day in your business is going to the wrong place.
There might be too many distractions on your website, so you might not have clear navigation or your buy button. I've actually worked with customers who don't actually have a shop or buy now button on their homepage. It's really hard to find the product. Let alone purchase it.
Sounds crazy, but it does happen.
Sometimes you need a fresh set of eyes on your website.
The third reason might be because you're just not making a big enough impact in the market. You're not standing out in the marketplace. And that could be for several reasons.
Your brand might look a little generic.
Perhaps you are a little bit shy of taking a lot of risks and really showing up authentically in your brand, with your photography, your product copy, and how you show up with your product.
Step 2: What can you do about these three things?
The first thing is to think about how you spend your time and how you focus your energy every single day.
I have to admit that I have been guilty of this in the past, and it's really easy to waste time and get distracted.
Unless you're doing a time audit with your business and with your day, it's easy to lose track of what you're doing on any given day.
You can do a time audit. Keep a pad of paper next to you, and as you go through your day, or if this is something you do after hours, keep a pad by your computer and just track how long everything takes for you to accomplish.
You’ll see exactly where your energy is going.
The second thing to think about is to focus on growing an audience and nurturing your audience. So that can look very different depending on who you are and what your business is all about.
But you want to make sure you're getting people onto your email list, and that you are emailing that list and really nurturing your audience.
Offering them value doesn't have to be offering them sales, but really talking about how your product starts to solve problems for them. Anything that's new and exclusive to your audience is going to be really beneficial to them.
Don't let them miss out on any new product launches that you have or colors that you've just launched in a certain style to really take. Think about taking care of your audience. That can be to your email list, but it could also be out on social media or anywhere that you market.
Make sure that you're really letting your customers know that you have things for them that help solve a problem.
And yes, clothing brands still solve problems for people.
The next thing you think about is simplifying your website.
Maybe you have a lot of products that are cluttered on your site, or you've got old styles that you haven't retired. Sometimes it's hard to have old inventory sitting there just not doing anything.
Maybe it's out of season, out of style. Maybe you're just not thrilled with it anymore. Sometimes it's okay to outlet that or, even sample sale off some of your older products.
You can clean up your website and make it more appealing overall.
Another thing to think about with your website is to make sure your navigation is clear.
This is something you can ask a friend to help you with so you have a fresh set of eyes.
The last piece of the website puzzle is to make sure that your product descriptions really speak to the benefits that the customer will get from buying your product.
I'm going to do a separate training on this because this is often an overlooked piece of the puzzle when it comes to clothing and accessory businesses.
You're not selling medicine, so how do you solve the problem?
Well, your product is going to help people show up, look good, and feel great. So obviously it does solve problems.
And then you might want to think about how you stand out in the marketplace.
I get asked this a lot! One thing that working in the corporate world, in the fashion industry we did is to always have a hero product in the business. No matter if it was men's polo shirts or a women's fragrance brand, or a shoe company, so many successful businesses have a hero piece in their complete assortment that they kind of become known for.
You might think about the Gucci loafer, um, that Princeton loafer, that iconic loafer. Yes, it's trendy, but that thing has been around forever and it's really iconic.
You will become a destination for the customer who absolutely loves what you do.
If you have a hero piece in your product assortment, it's really going to attract ideal customers to your business.
And then they're going to look around and explore and buy other things. Having a hero product is one of the key things that you can do that's going to transform your business.
